Leap year assembly

Today my class performed their assembly based on the leap year. I chose this topic because today is 29th February. Although I chose the topic, it was the children who came up with the script and the ideas for acting scenes.
I was really pleased that everyone in the class spoke loudly and clearly and remembered their lines.
Well done Y1/2S!

Thank you!

We were joined this morning by Lepra who wanted to say a big thank you to St Joseph’s school for raising a whopping £1275 for their charity. Through the children’s fund raising efforts we have managed to save 60 people from this dreadful disease. Children who raised the most money wore their special Lepra T-shirts.

We also said a big thank you and final farewell to Sue Churchill who was a school cook for several years at St Josephs.

Haikus, Tankas and Cinquains

Some Year 6s have been experimenting with language and have written some really fab poems!
Tanka

The big bumble bee.
The bee flew through the moonlight
as the sky went on.
Then the sun started to rise
as the moon quietly went down.

By Sam

Tanka
Winter is here now;
the snow flakes are falling down.
The flakes are so cold,
as cold as a snow mountain.
Winter is the best ever.
By Edward

Cinquain
Just now!
It zoomed past me
The horrible thing called
Death, zoomed past at the speed of sound.
Just now!

Britain since 1948 y5/6

Year 5/6 studied Britain since 1948. They learned a great deal about how the world has changed in the last 50 plus years and discovered the advances in technology over time. Great fun was had listening and dancing to music from the Rock and Roll era of the 1950s. At the end of the topic, the children paraded in a fashion show and performed songs from the different decades. It was enjoyed by all. See some of the work and St Joseph's answer to Jerry Lee Lewis in the photos below.

Y5 & 6 cycle training

Here are some comments from some of those who took part in Bristol City Council cycle proficiency training last month:

It was really fun, but some of it was quite hard. My brakes were really bad and I almost crashed into a van. The road we did it on was not that quiet, and whenever it was my turn to go there was usually a stream of cars coming down or up the road. However, it was worth it in the end!
Becky Dudley, 10

I was really nervous when I started, but it soon got easier and more fun. All the activitys were slightly challenging but all the team in our cycle proficiency got the hang of it and we had a great big laugh every time we were working together! Zoe Boniface, 10

3/4's 'mini' sports day.

Mr Tilmouth and Mrs Bell's literacy groups held a 'mini' sports day today at the School field.

We've started a new unit of work on recount writing and wanted the children to have a stimulus they were directly involved with.

A big thankyou to Mrs Tuohy and Mrs Apperley for joining us this morning.

Ash Wednesday

Today is a special day because it is Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent. To mark this occasion we had a special Key stage 1 assembly whilst the Key Stage 2 classes went to church to join in with the parish Mass.
During our assembly, all the key stage 1 children (and teachers) had their foreheads marked with ash by Mr Condon and Mrs Ford. You can still see the mark on mine!
I look forward to hearing what people will be giving up for Lent.
