Carol concert

Yesterday the school held the carol concert in the hall. A big thank you to the choir, the actors, musicians, readers, parents and friends for joining in and making this such a special celebration.

3D drawings using 3D glasses

Y5/6C continued to look at 3D art, but this time using 3D glasses and 3D paper. We had lots of fun trying out different drawings.

3D art

Y5/6C have been looking at different modern artists as part of their 'Back to the Future' project. We were particularly inspired by British chalk/street artist Julian Beever, who uses a 3D illusion to make his drawing look life like. We learnt how to make our own 3D drawings.

What will happen in the future?

In Maths Y5/6C have been looking at the chance or likelihood of particular events happening in the future. The activity sparked lots of discussions.

What is the probability/chance it will be a white Christmas?

Making future clothes from throwaway items

Y5/6C have been thinking about the clothes of the future as part of their 'Back to the Future' project. We thought about the environmental dangers facing our planet and how large clothes manufactures are seeking to make more of their products from recycled items, such as recycled plastic bottles. The class was set the challenge of making clothes of the future from throwaway items.

Fishponds now and then

Y5/6C have used ICT to place old photos of Fishponds into modern day ones. The children have carefully matched up photos to create these stunning images for their 'Back to the Future' project.

Back to the Future collage

Y5/6C have created a class collage on changes through the decades (1950’s to the present day). The collage produced a lot of discussion and learning. The children needed to find images from different decades requiring ICT and history skills.

Carols around the tree

Despite Mrs Marsh being unwell, carols around the tree has gone ahead with help and support from the choir, Mrs Joseph, SingUp and, of course, all those who have attended. Get well soon Mrs Marsh.

The infants had a visitor during their Christmas party.

Infant Nativity

The infants performed their nativity play today. It was wonderful. There is another performance tomorrow morning at 9:30am.

More of Year 2 at Fishponds Library

The current building has been a library since 1927. Before the building was the local cinema. The new library will open on the 16th January and will be situated in Robinson House, which is opposite Morrisons Supermarket. I wonder how different the new library will be? Read Write Poets

During their Read Write session, Mrs Martin’s group have been looking for words that rhyme. They chose some of the ones they thought of and the group all wrote a poem together. Read their poem below.

The place where he lives is very dark.
The fox doesn’t like it, it makes him bark.
Fox said, “I need to find some light.
If I don’t, it’s always night.”
Off he went. He found a box.
“This looks good,” said the fox.
Very slowly fox opened the lid,
When he saw what was inside, he was glad that he did.
Out shone the sun that came out really bright.
Fox was glad he found the light.

St Fagans

Today Y5/6C enjoyed a trip to St Fagans National History Museum, as part of their 'Back to the future' project. Here we saw many different buildings from different periods in time. We visited an 1880's shop, a 13th century church and many other original buildings moved from various parts of Wales and re-erected to show how people lived throughout the past centuries. We were given a fantastic talk and explored an eco home/house of the future.

Yesterday we made some Tudor sweetmeats, using recipes from that period. We made Gingered Bread, using breadcrumbs from left-over bread, honey and lots of spices. Jumbles are biscuits that you twist into a knot. They have a strange taste from the caraway seeds.

School closed due to industrial action

Learning about Islam

In RE the school had been learning about Islam. Earlier in the week years 5 and 6 went to visit the local mosque. Today, four Muslim children from the school talked to year 1 about what it is like to be a Muslim and how they pray. Did you know Muslims pray five times a day?

Faces in history

Y5/6C have placed themselves into different times in history as part of their 'Back to the future' project. The children needed to find photos from 1950 to the present day and then use ICT skills to place themselves into it.

Liam in Y5/6C produced this fantastic Back to the future scene to go with our project. He has downloaded many pictures and placed them on to google sketchup. - Well done Liam!

Children in need

Today Y5P gave an excellent children in need assembly. The class explained what children in need is all about and why it is so important. We had jokes, dancing and lots of singing -Well done!

A Report about A Day of Dressing Up!

First, myself and my friends Ollie, Oliver and Micah had a discussion about the Jessie May Trust, which is a charity to help sick children. We talked to our head teacher about raising money for them and when we could do it. A non-uniform day was arranged for Friday 11th November. If children wanted to dress up, they were asked to give a donation of £1.00. The money collected was given to the Jessie May Trust. All this information was added to the school newsletter.

On Friday 11th November we all dressed up. It was a fantastic day when lots of children showed off their stylish clothes. Apparently, the whole school dressed up. It was treat for our eyes to see so many different colours and fashions.

We were all very glad and thankful to all the children in our school for participating. We raised a total of £180.25. Myself, I felt very proud for organizing such a great event.

Graffiti

This week Y5/6C studied Graffiti as part of their 'Back to the future' project. The children went on to create some brilliant Graffiti tags of their own.

Pop Art

Y5/6C have been looking at art through the ages from 1950 to the present day as part of their 'Back to the future' project. We studied Pop art, going on to create some of our own. The children produced some fantastic drawings!

The investigation continues

The community support officers were called in today to help year 1 find out what happened to the missing porridge. They took a detailed description of the suspect, Goldilocks, to help them know who to look for. The children learned how important it is to give a good description with as much information as possible to help the investigation. Did you see anything suspicious yesterday afternoon?

Missing porridge

Today year 1 were making porridge as part of their Goldilocks and the three bears topic. They made some for Mr Condon, Mrs Rollings and Mr Sherwin but the porridge was too hot so they put it in the classroom to cool down. When they came back after play they saw that someone had eaten the porridge and Mr Sherwin's porridge was eaten all up!

Charley's Donkey Tooth Fairy

In assembly this week Charley shared his story 'The Donkey Tooth Fairy', which was shown on children's television recently. Charley won a competition to write a story for TV and visited the TV studios to watch his story made into a cartoon and also record the narration. Well done Charley!
